It’s an amazing experience to tour gorillas in Uganda and Gorilla
in Rwanda. This double tracking of mountain gorillas gives you a
chance to develop a personal touch and observation of the gorillas.
It is natural that someone may only get satisfied with a single-day
gorilla tour except when he/she does it twice to different
destinations and families.
Day 1: Arrive in Uganda.
When you arrive at Entebbe
Airport, a driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to Kampala
for overnight at Cassia Lodge, Mamba Point, Hotel Africana, Le Petit
Village or Serena Kampala.
Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the dwelling place for Mountain Gorillas in Uganda.
Early morning between
7-8:00am, your driver guide will you from the hotel in Kampala to
initiate your fieldtrip to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in
South-western Uganda. You will make a stop at the Uganda Equator for
some photos. Uganda Equator is an imaginary point where the Northern
Hemisphere separates from the Southern Hemisphere, and it’s a
tourist spot for photo taking and handicraft shops. Proceed with the
journey to Mbarara Town where you will have lunch. Continue and
arrive at the park in the evening. Take an overnight accommodation
at Nshongi Gorilla Resort, Gorilla Safari Lodge or Chameleon Hill
Lodge (Full Board).
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Uganda
Eat breakfast and transfer you
to park offices for briefing about Mountain Gorilla trekking by a
local guide. The time taken is usually between 2-8 hours depending on
the movement of the gorillas and the family one is allocated.
Meeting the gorillas unexpectedly is one of the most captivating
lifetime experiences. You will have a chance to observe and take
pictures at very close range. You will observe adults feeding and
groaning among themselves, as the minor gorillas play backward and
forward from thickets in an enjoyably amusing demo. After an hour
with the long-awaited gorillas, your guide and rangers will lead you
back to the starting point where your driver will readily be
waiting to transfer you back to the lodge for a restful evening.
Have dinner and spend an overnight stay at Nshongi Gorilla Resort,
Gorilla Safari Lodge or Chameleon Hill Lodge (Full Board).
Day 4: Cross Over to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
After a delicious breakfast,
you will drive to cross over to Rwanda via Cyanika Boarder Post.
Within 2 hours, you will be in Musanze Town, a neighboring business
area to the gorilla park. Overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel,
La Palme Hotel or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Full Board)
Day 5: Rwanda Gorilla Tracking
Today is another chance of
facing gorillas but this time in Rwanda. After a briefing about
mountain gorilla tracking, you will be led by the park rangers to
the forest in search of the calm primates. Upon meeting them, you
are allowed one hour to be in the midst of the gorillas as you
observe in admiration and photograph them in excitement when they
freely playing, grumbling. After being with gorillas, go downhill to
the starting area to meet a waiting guide to transfer back to the
lodge. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura guest house (Budget),
La Palme Hotel (mid-range) or Mountain Gorilla View Hotel (luxury)
Day 6: Track Golden Monkeys and drive to Kigali.
In the morning after
breakfast, you will transfer to the park offices for briefing but this
time round not for gorilla trekking but for golden monkey tracking in
the forest of Volcanoes National Park. The process is no much
different from gorilla trekking as also one hour is allowed with
these monkeys. Afterwards, have lunch and drive to Kigali where you
will arrive in the evening. If your flight is on this day, you will
be dropped at the airport. But if time allows, you may first have to
go the Genocide Memorial Centre in Kigali to witness and awaken
memories of the brutality that was put to over 250,000 Tutsi
Rwandese during the 1994 countrywide genocide in Rwanda.
